Hamilton Island

Without doubt, Alice Springs is the most interesting place that I have visited, so far in Australia. Until now, I was reluctant to choose which the most beautiful spot was. Australia has some stunning scenery and it would be almost impossible to select one favourite place. I have just arrived on Hamilton Island, one of the 74 Whitsunday Islands, on the edge of the Great Barrier Reef. Its early days yet but we might have a contender. After I’ve checked into my “bungalow”, I will head out with my camera and take some photos. Then you can help me to decide.

I have started reading Bill Bryson’s book “Down Under”. It was recommended by my friend, Cathy Holahan before my holiday, so I downloaded it to my Kindle. I am glad that I waited until I had experienced Australia before I read this book. Now I can associate so easily with the Australia that he portrays with such perception and wit. The sheer size of the country, the friendly, laid back culture and the relaxed attitude of Australians to risk, (particularly risks of nature, sharks, snakes, etc.), were some of the things that surprised me most in the 3 weeks since I arrived. I am really enjoying the book, Thanks Cathy for the recommendation.

    Hi Ann

What stunning photosgraphs, I loved the glimpse of the sea through the foliage. The ice cream looks good too!!

    Love Mam

  2. The view across the beach does it for me. It is soo….. inviiting. Have you got into the water much along the way and if so what is it like? The boats look fab also – are they local or holiday makers?

    • Hi Carol. Interesting you should ask about swimming in the sea. It is “stinger” season here. This means that the sea is full of deadly jelly fish that give one of the most agonising bites known to man. Australian response; put on these ugly nylon suits which protect your limbs but not face, feet and hands. Minimises the potential damage. So, while I have paddled in the beautiful warm waters, I haven’t been tempted to swim other than in swimming pools. Ann 🙂
