Day 26: Next Stop Brisbane

Today I leave Fraser Island and head to Brisbane for one night.  We travel by bus from Hervey Bay to Brisbane, so this will be my opportunity to see a small section of the East Coast.  I am looking forward to the bus ride.

**************

I met a cute guy on the bus.  His name is Brandon and he is 11 years old.  Like me, he was travelling solo and we soon became friends.  I suspect we had the oldest bus and the gruffest driver in Australia.   All was well for the first 200 kilometres or so.  Problems started when the air conditioning unit started to blow out hot air.  We suffered in sauna like conditions for up to half an hour.  Then the engine overheated, the driver got stressed and finally the bus broke down.

I told Brandon not to worry.  Worst case, I would call a taxi and he could come to Brisbane with me.  He phoned his Mum and she said that was fine and “not to forget to say thank you”.  I was rather surprised by her relaxed attitude.

We eventually made it to Brisbane and dropped our travelling companions to the airport, hopefully on time for their flights.  We were all good friends by this stage and wished one another fond farewells.

I m sure you are sad to leave Fraser Island, it sounds as if it might be more city from now on but I am sure you will enjoy it Sydney is super.

    • Hi Mum.

My island adventures aren’t over yet. I am off tomorrow to Hamilton Island which is one of the Whitsunday islands. Up at the Barrier Reef again.

  2. Interesting that an 11 year old is travelling over 200kms on a bus on his own. I wonder what Dr. Spock would have to say? Checked Hamilton Island out on the web and it looks lovely. Hope you have a super time there.

The point about your hair – no, I think your waves look fab – I take it that this is a new beginning and the days of making sure the umbrella is in the bag are now past?

Have not been dancing these few weeks. Looks like new classes are starting this weekend.

    • Hi Carol
I agree fully in relation to the 11 year old. It typifies the Australian attitude to risk as I have experienced it.
Look forward to Salsa on 22nd.
